Aug 21st 2007 4:53PM I wouldn't have gotten on that plane, either. I'd go home and call the media.

Schizophrenia lower in type 1s

The Diabetes Blog

Aug 15th 2007 10:55PM I don't see any details about the risk of Type 2, but one issue is that certain medications used to treat schizophrenia have been known to bring on diabetes.

VA shortchanged me, says diabetic

Aug 15th 2007 7:57PM Not everyone benefits from testing frequently, but for those who know what to do with the information (and do it), they do and it's a bit unthinkable to stop doing it. I suspect that in all those studies saying people with Type 2 didn't benefit from frequent testing, they didn't tell them what to do with the information. It certainly wasn't mentioned.

Personally, I'd rather pay for a lot more test strips than the cost of complications from the chronic undertreatment of Type 2.

Average blood glucose instead of HbA1c

The Diabetes Blog

Jul 7th 2007 3:00PM For example - sustaining a blood sugar of 200 mg/dL is a lot safer than waking at 240 and ushering a boatload of sugar into your cells to drop your sugar to 80 mg/dL.

Yes, it's a lot safer for your *eyes,* but those who do so have a higher overall rate of other complications. If you ask me, both are bad.

Diabetes control has improved dramatically in U.S.

Jun 26th 2007 7:37PM ...but that's only based on those who get A1c tests. How do they know control is better, and not that there are just more diabetics?

May 18th 2007 12:55PM There's another huge disparity here - most clinical trials are done on men, even though the few that haven't have shown differences in women and men when it comes to heart problems.

Irreconcilable Differences - I'm Divorcing the ADA

The Diabetes Blog

Apr 11th 2007 5:54PM I've long felt this way about the ADA. I'm very frustrated because a friend of mine (close to being former friend, frankly) has embarked on a new diet to help her pre-diabetes: a 60% carb diet. She's actually eating way *more* carbs than she was before! I tried telling her this wouldn't work, but she won't listen, because she's doing what the ADA says and following a "diabetic diet."

They're out of touch.
