Welcome EU residents, by the way, we're charging VAT!

Second Life Insider

Sep 28th 2007 3:56PM None of the above comments understand the actual law being applied. Under a 2002 EU directive enacted into the tax law of each EU country, if there is "no physical product" in an e-service, then the point of taxation is not the country of the supplier, but the country of the consumer. Points made above about VAT law all refer to physical product, which in this case is irrelevant (as are references to gambling). Mercia (paying 21% VAT which means I am paying the same for a mainland sim as a Canadian pays for a private region)

Buy Anshe's stuff for L$10

Second Life Insider

Sep 14th 2007 11:21AM I also think Anshe's plan is to do with land, but not based on prims but on price. If she forces all the prices down to 10L$ then we can buy all our stuff for next to nothing (dresses, cars, houses, etc). So her hope is that then we will spend money buying land off her or rent from her. Its like the old Free Software promo, if you pay less on software you can afford better hardware. The problem with Ansche's plans is Linden Lab. There is no way they are going to let one resident take all the money while LL struggle with profitability. If it looks like Ansche is becoming the equivalent of General Motors or Microsoft, LL will start introducing anti-monopoly rules. Because SL can survive without Ansche but it cannot survive without LL being profitable.

Coke campaign officially a success and not over

Aug 28th 2007 5:52PM No such thing as bad publicity, especially if you are a brand name (remember Pepsi pulling out of sponsoring Michael Jackson's tour - what a coup for their marketing department). Brand names need you to keep talking about them to keep the brand imafge alive, and people are still talking about Coca-Cola in SL. A bottle-popping success for their marketing department.

Grid issues back, colo problems again

Second Life Insider

Aug 9th 2007 10:57AM Keep getting logged out in one particular sim (Brooks - very heavy lag at the best of times), keep flying several regions for one press of the arrow key (Nolidae, Serpetata), and I have been unable to access my island Urbana Spes since the first problems yesterday that were claimed to be resolved for all sims (maybe I was just unlucky and it was briefy available while I slept). Every time I get the flying huge distances bug I get my hair up my arse, and I was Ruthed at one point.

Linden Lab takes the communication out of the virtual world

Second Life Insider

Aug 2nd 2007 7:57PM Many who detest voice find that it is going to remove the freedom that SL gives them that RL does not. Such as those who have speech impediments or transwomen who speak with a male voice. MrApathe should read a few more of the anti-voice articles and postings and discover a wealth of problems. Personally I will not use it but nore will I disable it on my land.

Linden Lab takes the communication out of the virtual world

Second Life Insider

Aug 2nd 2007 7:53PM I disliked the communication window because there were two points to entry text the chat line and the all-in-one communication window. But then I was not using it much cuz I switched back to Linux which did not have Voice First Look. But then today I had my chat window in the top right corner of a 1200x??? res screen and found it cumbersome to type in a chat line at the bottom and read the history at the top, so I've been won over to comms window. And guess what hours after being won over Voice goes mainstream and Linux finally has the all-in-one window which I started to like just in time.

Grid problems easing

Jul 31st 2007 1:24PM According to the Linden Lab Blog this was not a DoS attack, but a configuration error on their part. http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/07/29/gridwide-slowdowns/
