Movable Life - new web-based client

Second Life Insider

Oct 12th 2007 2:53PM I just had a change to try this out and compare it to Ajaxlife... i think the main difference for me at this point is that ML shows the friends list (albeit intermittently) while AL does not, but does not show nearby avs (while AL does)from what I could tell.

Also - ML does seem to work on Firefox for me (I'm on a Mac), and both ML and AL punch through my local firewall just fine.

I think a lot of people need to get off their high horse about companies being in SL.

A company *brought* you SL and all of the autonomous content creation tools you enjoy. If you don't like what a company is bringing in to SL, can you do better? Can you create something on your own? or what can you bring to the table?

Not only that - AjaxLife is run by one resident, true. But consider the background information the creator has chosen to release - this is not meant to be a slight on her own situation, but how much more secure is her product as far as financial backing, as compared to a company?

It's great to see both clients having progressed so far and each has its pros and cons, but really, which do you think has greater stability and probability of staying around longer? Criticizing the presence of a company bringing a service to you solely on the basis of it being a company is pretty narrowminded, no?

I for one was a bit relieved to see an alternative that is not just running based on a 'proof of concept' model.

Dreamland institutes major covenant/tier overhaul

Second Life Insider

Aug 7th 2007 5:11PM Am glad I got out before this happened. Have dealt with other estates that have easily gotten around this 'cutting up of land' thing by reserving a small central area for tenants to pay for their rent/tier.

On a whole... i don't see much of a problem with the removal of the Paypal rent/subscriptions - some Estate owners *prefer* to be paid only in Lindens. I also come from the perspective of someone who rented land from ACS for a year - at the end, the way thigns were set up, I could very well have sold the land without anyone noticing. Dreamland is big enough that this could happen without an Estate manager noticing before it would be too late, i think... so I imagine ACS wants to minimize losses in that regard.

I think the change is reasonable, for the most part - but there is a considerable amt of hassle involved and it *is* rather restrictive that people cannot join or split land as they please, terraform, and lose a bit of land in exchange for having to pay more money.
