Music Thing: Numark's all-USB DJ console
Engadget
Jul 24th 2006 4:33PM Some things are better left alone. Now any kid can be a DJ without hitting the history books or DITC..and I've seen my fair share of crap DJs with CDJs who think they know everything.
Technology is great, and Lord knows I get sick of carrying milk crates, but DJing is NOT just plugging a USB cord in and hitting a couple of buttons...

HP's 8 megapixel Photosmart R927 reviewed

Apr 19th 2006 2:51PM I totally agree with #14. I consider myself a little bit above novice and have an older Sony Cyber-Shot 5mp and hardly ever use the 5mp setting unless I'm doing a design project, like a poster, that requres large, print quality shots. Otherwise I'm shooting at 1.2 MP, and still resizing (VGA is a little too small) shots to post on the web and 3.1 MP shots for printing 4x6 pics. All too often we get tricked into thinking bigger is better, and I betcha the people who will be drawn to buying this haven't even thought about the cost of the 1 and 2GB memory cards they are going to have to buy to ensure the camera's functionality. Also, this article says nothing about the camera's efficiency on battery power and it's optical and digital zoom, two serious considerations for me when I am digicam hunting. At $400, which is no flash in the pan, you're just paying for an 8mp setting that you'll probably never have a reason to use. You can find a lovely 5MP model and still have some change left over for the memory cards and batteries at that price.
Boot Camp lets Macs run Windows ... officially
Engadget
Apr 5th 2006 1:48PM This is great in terms of functionality. I would love to be able to run both OSs on my Mac. As it stands, I have one of each - my Mac handles most of my design applications and my PC handles my very large statistical analysis apps that cannot be run on any platform besides Windows. In my opinion, the OS X interface is more intuitive and I just plain like using it better than I do Windows. Sure there's virtual PC, but trying to run SAS using that is a no-go - nothing but problems. Maybe with an Intel Mac and BootCamp I can clear 2 or 3 computers out of my house finally...
Henna ingredients may cause cancer
The Cancer Blog
Apr 3rd 2006 8:21PM Real henna is a dark green powder that turns into a greenish-brown paste when it's mixed (terped) with essential oils (usually tea tree), and an acid like lemon juice to draw designs on the skin. After the henna dries, it turns brown, and leaves the skin an orangey colour until it sets to a dark reddish brown. I've been having mehndi art done for a few years and I've done it myself, so from experience, I can tell you that most henna does not contain PPD.
If you are getting mehndi done, first of all make sure you are going to a reputable Mehndi artist. Sometimes that is not possible with festivals, so if you see that the paste is black or it dries black and does so quickly, wash it off immediately and go to the doctor. There is no such thing as black henna and as the article stated above, the PPD that makes "black henna" black is very very toxic. On average, my henna tats last about 1.5 weeks, and that's with a lot of handwashing and showering. Anything that lasts a lot longer than 2-3 weeks is probably not safe.
