The Diabetes Blog

Sep 11th 2007 7:35PM I know a couple of people who work/worked for AOL's WIN (Weblogs Inc. Network) and it is my understanding that AOL is moving towards more consumer-driven blogs rather than purely educational. My boss founded AdJab (see Retired Blogs section in the righthand column) and that was retired last spring, and one theory I have is that it was too specific of an audience and didn't provide anything consumer-driven. On the flipside, Engadget, Autoblog and Joystiq focus on consumer products. Thus, they have a much better ability to get high traffic. It probably has nothing to do with advertisers not liking The Diabetes Blog (Engadget could do far more damage to companies than The Diabetes Blog could ever hope). It has more to do with what everyone has already been saying: this is an informative blog and not a consumer blog, and it's just not the avenue AOL wants to take.

Of course, this opinion is not substantiated by any employee of AOL Weblogs Inc. Network. It's all a guess based on pure conjecture.

The Diabetes Blog

Aug 26th 2007 5:03PM How is this any different than this story: http://www.thediabetesblog.com/2006/06/05/eight-year-old-boys-lemonade-stand-raises-money-for-diabetes-cu/

You raved about the boy's genius and what a success it was. Too bad you forgot that they are children and as children they are doing the best they can to help a cause. Shame on you for being so cynical you can't even appreciate one family's efforts to raise money for a cure. I appreciate all efforts - and I remember to bolus!
