When a child can't remember....
The Diabetes Blog
Sep 5th 2007 8:20AM It's still happening to lots of people! I got late onset Type 1 and started insulin in 2003. After 15 months on "human" analogue insulin I couldn't remember the names of old friends, couldn't tell if people I passed on the street were people I knew or not, couldn't calculate and all sorts of other problems. I had to retire from work early. Then luckily I read that some people recover completely on animal insulin. After only three days on pork insulin I felt different, though it took another 12 months to recover completely. Thank you pigs!! There's an internation charity fighting to keep animal insulin available: it's called the insulin dependent diabetes trust and there are lots of stories on their website about people with memory problems. I was so relieved to find that I wasn't alone and that there was a solution.
