CopyBot anger rises

Second Life Insider

Nov 14th 2006 1:11PM I didn't actually say that libSL people were evil, just that they seemed surprised that someone would use this for evil purposes. I fyou read the forums stuff GeForce Go hasn't come up with one legitimate use for the CopyBot, just a lot of flannel about people being about to issue a takedown if their stuff is ripped off.

New Moopf's Skoopfs on the horizon

Nov 9th 2006 12:57AM Ooops. I remembered you saying eight, but when I read your blog, I saw six and assumed that you'd revised the figure. Serves me right for blogging when cross-eyed with tiredness. Sorry chaps! Sorry Moopf....

Poor communication infuriates residents

Nov 2nd 2006 3:34AM All buyers have a right to know the terms under which they are purchasing land in Second Life, whether they are not-for-profits like Numbakulla, in-world businesses like Anshe, or commercial customers like some of my clients.

I disagree with you -- there's a surprise -- because the contradictory information which indicates that higher tier fees will not be charged on sims bought before November 15; higher tier fees may be charged on transfer; higher tier fees may be charged on existing land, is all on official Linden documents *at the same time*.

If Linden Lab want to charge me three cupcakes and a pair of bloomers in addition to tier fee, because I am a developer, that could be fair enough, given *fair* warning, and given a reasonable justification. What has just happened is neither fair nor justified, they just seem to be making it up as they get comments on their blog.

The whole FIC thing bores me. I think people should be treated fairly and equitably and I am against anything which erodes the egalitarian nature of the world inside SL.

No, the sky isn't falling

Oct 25th 2006 10:07AM Well...maybe. I don't think it is like that though. A lot of the people who joined around the time I did were refugees from Uru Live, who were looking for a new place to maintain their community. I knew those people I knew in Uru pretty well, and they are a disparate lot bound together by their love of Cyan games. You might say that all of them were open to the online world, by dint of being there, but I don't think many of us would see ourselves as cutting edge.

I think it is largely a matter of chance who stumbled across SL at what time: I was lucky enough to have a friend who pointed me to it.

As for judging people by their television viewing, my whole family are passionately fond of Neighbours, which is hardly high art. In that arena, one man's meat is another man's poison. Judging other people by their taste in anything isn't cool, and can lead you astray. The most amazing people like the most amazingly dull things, and it just doesn't tell you much about the people.

I still say the village to town to city analogy doesn't obtain, SL has always been as big or as small as you make it. If you buy a sim and sit on it, it won't matter whether you joined last week or last year. If you are open to explore, it has always been more akin to the wild west than any village or town.
