Sep 4th 2007 9:56AM login has been down for me and my crew for the past 1 hour

Grid issues back, colo problems again

Second Life Insider

Aug 9th 2007 12:01PM I did the following:
- changed my password via the web account
- trashed my complete SL install (not just the cache but everything)
- restore the latest client from a dmg image (you may have a zip on Win)
- log into this island: HIVA OA
- TP back to my land in Chumong which shows pretty usable

No other sim allowed me to login but another one: Grasmere, and there is a gigantic mess with negative space and all.

LL have severe design faults with this actual setup. Nothing at a colo should keep the users down for more than an hour but a gigantic fire or an earthquake.

Ginko Financial finally dead

Aug 9th 2007 7:44AM Nicholas, drive slow on that brand new spanking Mercedes SLR or even better since now you can, get a driver. About the database transfer from Ginko to WSE, you know, databases are volatile and Mercedes rims are known to be expensive.

No-copy objects in danger. Again.

Second Life Insider

Aug 3rd 2007 5:58PM "If you rez, drag from inventory on the floor or ground, a no-copy object on land that is not owned by you or a group you belong to and have no rights to create objects, the object will disappear from inventory and not show up in-world."

The above is what Data Linden says about this problem on the official blog. Thank you for emphasizing that the problem is possibly far more severe. See you after the rolling restart which is said to be "in progress".

Not very encouraging.

Linden Lab takes the communication out of the virtual world

Second Life Insider

Aug 2nd 2007 12:21PM The whole problem with LL is this unworldly stubbornness towards their baby, this insane behaviors that leads them to believe the client even presents a UI and that is a functional UI while it is not. They fail to understand that the present UI, even before voice and the bHear is cause #1 of the ridiculous retention rates and alien to 8 Million users. Their stubbornness goes further, in the code, that makes the client "un-skinnable", skins that are what every developer from ESC down the line would love to have. I stopped thinking about using Voice when a Linden on the beta grid told me that I needed a headset and that the mic in my powerbook isn't capable of supporting Voice decently. It supports decently Skype all day every day. Not getting an headset, keep using Skype for business, qualifying text chat superior to Voice in many aspects and again recommending LL to research for professional help outside of the company (and outside of the small circle of citizens this UI was built for)

Ginko attempts to save itself

Aug 1st 2007 7:06PM True, lots of RL banks have done this before. It was Argentina.

Configurations, attacks, the support portal and logins.

Jul 31st 2007 1:59PM Poorly-thought-through configuration?

I told you that since Cory turned into female reliability has sunken thru the floor and beyond that into the frail. It is indeed rough times for SL with only brief moments of clarity. We must be surprised that residents still endure and buy, organize and live thru this with a smile.

Linden Lab should commission a little monument to include a sculpt of "El Presidente", head down buried in the sand, not "In Memoriam" but "To Patience".

Like they used to say in the olden days, when the storm comes you can still sweep the floor but to pray is well... more practical.

Jerry Garcia bless 'em all.

What is wrong with the SL grid?

Second Life Insider

Jul 30th 2007 1:53PM Maybe this exploit may not seem a big deal but you have noticed that SL is on its knees and has been quite frozen for some 36 hours now. If LL is being blackmailed then that's why they have not shut the grid? Someone, LL simply has no choice on banning gambling. They have to abide to CA laws. The question is not if they are going to lift the ban on gambling or taking time, the question is what they are banning next.
