Bruce and Tears in "City of Ruins"
Blogging New Orleans
May 1st 2006 1:04AM Steve,
Beautiful, just beautiful. I had the good fortune to visit New Orleans a few years ago, for a weekend in the middle of December. My friend and I stayed at an inn in the Garden District and had the whole place to ourselves. Wandered around the area, got a glimpse of Anne Rice, took the St. Charles trolley downtown and spend 2 days hitting one place after another, having 'sliders' and beer.(and the occasional gator sausage) Damn.
I've had the good fortune to tavel a fair bit and I've never been any place quite like New Orleans. There is a feel, a smell, a something I-don't-quite-know-what-to-call-it thing about that city. The people, the music, the food -- it's all different and so intense. Going in the 'off' season gave us a chance to meet people and go to some local haunts, (like the combination bar/laundrymat) without that whole tourist thing going on and I fell in love with the city and her people. There's no place else like it. All I have to do is think about that trip and I'm right back there
Bless New Orleans and all her folk. I hope all that is there is made right again soon.
