Cancer By The Numbers: Basal Cell Carcinoma

The Cancer Blog

Nov 21st 2007 7:14PM Hi,
I was able to get on a Blue Cross/Blue Shield plan even though I had two occurrences of basal cell skin cancer before. I think the fact that I had MOHS surgery done the second time helped, the insurance did have me fill out some extra information about that. It was lucky for me because when I got a third instance of basal cell on my nose the insurance was very helpful.

This last time the MOHS surgery took a large part of my nose off, so the reconstruction surgery was more intense. A forehead flap procedure was done and now a year later my nose looks pretty normal. You can see the pictures of my entire ordeal, from 1st surgery to healing one year later, at Basal Cell Mohs

I'm sure your sister has done just fine, as you are correct in that if one was to Have to have a skin cancer the basal cell would be the one to get.

Myself, I had to rethink my exposure to the sun. which meant a career change when I really hadn't wanted one. Even though the doctor said this damage was likely caused years ago, better to be safe than having anymore cases of basal cell skin cancer.
