New York Bar Association to would-be lawyers: No Macs Allowed
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)
Jul 31st 2008 2:43PM Something similar across the Hudson. In NJ, I tried the online renewal process for my wife's social worker license recently. Not only was the interface/usability absolutely horrible - bad site design - but it also required Internet Explorer on Windows. Managed to do it with my Parallels setup, but annoyed nonetheless.
TUAW Review: Logitech Harmony remote and the Mac

Feb 11th 2008 2:46PM Only thing stopping me from a Harmony is the RF remote on my Bose audio components.

May 5th 2007 3:11PM For a trade, long until the iPhone launch, with some reasonably tight stops to cover for the usual "sell the news" behavior.
But then, after a possible pull-back after iPhone, right back in for the long-term. It ain't just the gadgets. Despite dropping "Computer" from their name, the Mac is in a non-trivial growth mode for Apple Inc.
The case of the missing shows in the iTunes Store

First impression: buying a movie from the iTunes Store

Sep 13th 2006 8:30AM I've become addicted to the commentaries, "making of" bits, and other extras found on DVDs. Like the Hitchhiker's Guide on the Hitchhiker's Guide DVD. (I'm even still waiting for a deluxe edition of Kill Bill, one of my faves.) Unless that kind of material is included, I wouldn't expect to buy a lot of movies by download.
Ask TUAW: What's your favorite Smart Playlist?
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)
Aug 17th 2006 12:45PM A handful of source playlists to handle 5000+ songs, not usually played themselves:
1) 5-star non-classical not listened to in last 1 month
2) 4-star non-classical not listened to in last 2 months
3) 3-star non-classical not listened to in last 4 months
4) 4- or 5-star classical not listened to in last 2 months
5) songs added in last three months, not listened to in 2 weeks (note: every newly added song gets a 3-star rating, unless I'm sure of it as a 4 or 5, then modified on the fly if I find myself really grooving to it.)
...and one playlist to rule them all - my Frank's Radio list that includes those source lists and shuffles every workday and when my wife is in the car and I'm not playing podcasts which are my usual commuting fare. (I've also recently found a playlist of short - less than 15 minute - podcasts handy for keeping both hands on the wheel.)
For the last couple months, the master "Frank's Radio" list has varied between 450 and 800 songs.

Feb 22nd 2006 8:10AM What's a dashboard?
Not only have I not warmed up to specific widgets. I've also turned off the corner-sensitive launching of that "feature" of Tiger.
Just don't find it useful.
Ask TUAW: What's your favorite note-taking app?
The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)
Oct 2nd 2005 2:12PM I'm more of a free-form, mind-mapping note-taker than an outline builder...takes too long to figure out where in the outline a particular topic might go. My favorite tool for this, and for any box-and-arrow flow charting as well is Inspiration. (www.inspiration.com) Built for high school students and younger, it's got the cleanest user interface in the category. It's also cross-platform (Win/Mac).
