May 18th 2006 2:50PM At the bodegas, be on the lookout for little glass bottled Cokes. They may be the real sugar cane deal! Do you like Sopa Seca? I could make it for you.
It's Creole Tomato Time!
Blogging New Orleans
May 18th 2006 2:48PM I love Beefsteak. Or is that Beefstake? I don't know. I don't garden anymore, I just eat. I used hoe endless rows of tomatoes, then pick endless bushels of tomatoes, all the while dreaming of skinny boys in makeup. I love these tomatoes, though they aren't a fancy breed. I love a thick slice of one with mayonnaise on homemade bread. Bacon is just a distraction to one of these babies.
How long does the Creole season last? Will I be able to get one?

I grew up in Appalachia, and I'm telling you what I told him: "You know what I always say to folks when they ask me what it was like where I grew up? I say 'Have you ever seen Deliverance? It's just like that.'"
