May 30th 2006 9:35AM I lived in La for 4 years,my husband worked in New Orleans but i chose to stay in a small town called Tickfaw..and it was the most racist place I have ever lived..one of my sons was bi-racial, his father was black but my husband(white) adopted him...the word freejack was used to torment him, of course we had no idea what that meant.. I can say once the people got to know you and accepted you, they protected my son as if he were their own, also it is the only place you cannot not tell by just someones voice what color they are..everyone sounds the same on the phone.. I loved La. after i settled in, the culture, the people and the bayou.. broke my heart to see what happen to it.. I am now back hom in florida and suffered from the hurricanes too.
