Sep 4th 2007 2:00PM A Nauthuner wants to keep the oil and the port, but let the rest of New Orleans sink. Awesome. I'm so friggin' proud to be an American right now.

Chump change scandal
Blogging New Orleans
Aug 14th 2007 2:24PM From what I've read and heard in the news, Oliver Thomas is not the "the icing on a federal law enforcement cake," but the tip of the federal law enforcement iceberg. Thomas is the little guy they had to take down to get to the bigger guys. And as far as this "chump change" is concerned, he's reportedly been co-operating with the feds. That $15,000 or so is what we know about. We don't know what all they've actually found on him and what they've decided to let slide to gain his co-operation.
I usually like reading your blogs, but the tone you take in this one makes it seem as though you think this is a small deal. After all, we like the guy, he didn't steal TOO much money, and Louisisana has always been corrupt, so where's the harm? Unfortuneately, it has been years and years and years and years of this kind of thinking that has dug us into this very deep situation.

Aug 14th 2007 10:23AM My favorite "I'm no longer a newbie" moment, was sitting on Bourbon Street with my camera during Southern Decadence and discovering the naked people and drag queens no longer inspired me to take pictures. I'd seen it all before. I did eat a take out meal that day, given to me by a homeless man though. That was a first. Anyway, Happy Aniversary Miss Amanda!!

Aug 7th 2007 1:00PM I have to thank you for posting this picture. I have had so much fun with it since seeing it here. Everyone on my email list is sick to death of it by now, but I love it and am going to keep sending it to folks with various captions printed below it until I drop dead. It's kept me quite entertained. Thanks.
Correction: Buddy Caldwell wasn't vulturing at the Dr. Pou rally

Jul 26th 2007 4:50PM "I still think it was wrong to show up to the rally with anything on you designating a campaign if you weren't asked to appear." I believe people wear campaign stickers, buttons, t-shirts and the like to all kinds of events where they were not asked to appear. I don't see anything inappropriate about it. It is inappropriate, however, to write and post a blog on issues as important as the Dr. Anna Pou issue and the upcoming state Attorney General election with out doing your homework.

Jul 24th 2007 1:20PM Haven't you heard? We no longer do that whole "filling the streets, shaking with anger" thing here in the U S of A. (That's SOOOOOO 1960's!) Now days we just complain (when we have the gumption) during commercial breaks between reality shows. (I, myself, don't watch reality shows, so I complain during commercial breaks from the Simpsons and Family Guy.) So during the next commercial break, here's an easy thing you can do if this, or any other issue concerning our area's well-being bothers you-- just shoot off a letter to your helpful US senator. Here is the contact info you will need: http://landrieu.senate.gov/contact/index.cfm
