The era of stupid clothing has ended

Feb 8th 2008 11:00AM This is interesting. I wonder how hard it would be to put some type of continuous glucose monitor in this stuff. that could be of benefit to a LOT of people. And that might help Smartex because it would increase demand for their product.

Over 200 diabetes patients die in study

That's Fit

Feb 8th 2008 6:03AM Can I point out two things in your post that need to be cleared up.

1. This study involved only people with type 2 diabetes who already were at risk for cardiovascular disease.

2. In the group that tried intensive control 257 people died (out of over 10,000 people in the study). In the group that tried non-intensive control 203 people died. So there's a difference but it's not as dramatic as you point out.

Top 25 Stocks for the NEXT 25 years: DexCom (DXCM) update

BloggingStocks

Sep 27th 2007 9:17AM As a Dexcom user, and someone who has already profited from the stock uptick, I'm very positive about this company.

I think we'll see continuous glucose monitoring become the replacement for blood glucose tests as more people realize the benefits and as more papers are published that demonstrate them. Dexcom is also looking to move into the critical care area in hospitals. I think that could save money for insurers, improve patient outcomes, and dramatically increase sales for Dexcom.

I'm committed to them for the long term both as a user and a part owner.

The specials tonight are fulminant and non- fulminant

The Diabetes Blog

Sep 17th 2007 8:15PM This sounds like yet another reason why c-peptide should be made available as a treatment option for those with Type 1 diabetes. But I've not heard of any company working on this.

It continues to amaze me that there is so little real progress in treating this disease. Despite the cost of complications to both people and their health insurance companies the only changes we've seen since 1920 are: the insulin pump (better means of injecting); the continuous glucose monitor (better means of testing); and Symlin (the only real innovation). Why is no-one taking up the challenge of c-peptide?

Going the distance for diabetes

Can I be a little jealous? I think it's great that David is running to raise funds for diabetes. But there are others of us doing the same who don't have the profile that David enjoys.

I'm riding in two weeks to raise funds to support Dr. Faustman's research into a cure for Type 1 diabetes. I'll be riding one day before my 35th d-anniversary and I'm trying to raise $10K. If anyone would like to sponsor me, I'd appreciate it. Details are at http://ride.bernardfarrell.com.

The Cinderella story of a pumpkin

The Diabetes Blog

Jul 14th 2007 9:58PM Allie,

It's no use getting excited about pumpkins. President Bush has already banned the destruction of pumpkins for medical research.

Electronic records do not mean better diabetes care

That's Fit

Jun 13th 2007 9:31PM Brian

The reason why folks with diabetes are not helped by electronic records at their doctor's offices is because many of us make our treatment decisions based on records we keep. What would make THAT easier is improved software for home use by folks with diabetes. And that's now starting to happen, with web-based products. Now all we need is for the device manufacturers to open up the data collected from our bodies so we can use it help ourselves.

This post reminded me of the most excellent first album from Da Ramones, Gabba Gabba Hey!

On another issue. Would you consider helping in my challenge to decode the Dexcom CGM data format? You can do this by posting about the challenge and putting in the word Dexcom with a link to my post. Like this Dexcom

I've only recently become aware of C-peptide. I'll be sure to ask my endo what she thinks about it.
