One hundred = nine million, says orchestra

Second Life Insider

Oct 22nd 2007 9:02AM That does seem numerically totally unhinged by an order of magnitude.

However it does point to the fact that people dealing in audience metrics need to be able to speak a new language in the context of SL based performance and entertainment.

Perhaps audiences could be portrayed in terms of "value" rather than "quantity", with those watching live being qualitatively more valuable than those watching live on a feed, who in turn have higher perceived value than those watching repeat of that feed. Dunno, just thinking out loud.

And even a minuscule fraction of that quoted figure would make advertisers sit up and take plenty notice more than they are at the moment. And perhaps that's the most obvious indication that we're not reaching those numbers yet, no matter how brilliant the performance.

Visa deficit delays Shaggy's visit to Second Life

Second Life Insider

Sep 19th 2007 2:53PM You're very sharp!

Let me clear up some facts.

The "logistical" problem was nothing to do with Linden Lab or the recently completed SL outage on Wednesday. Shaggy was only available for an hour on Wednesday and it was well before SL's planned downtime so we decided to go ahead.

Unfortunately, as Tateru's post links to, he was prevented from entering the UK where were based due to Visa difficulties. Which is why we couldn't go ahead Wednesday.

We were working late on this Tuesday night and the news came to us in the early hours, so it was very disappointing.

We tried to reschedule for Thursday but it was finally impossible due to timings of various parties being incompatible - *that* was the logistical problem. So with regret we had to postpone the event.

But like I said, Shaggy will be back and in SL soon, and we'd like to see you all there!

Due to unavoidable circumstances, Shaggy can't be with us at the scheduled time. We're trying to reschedule for Thursday 20th. Please join the "Shaggy's Crew" group or IM Kei Mars to be kept up to date.

We're very sorry for the inconvenience that this may cause.

Shaggy invites fans to Second Life

Second Life Insider

Sep 18th 2007 4:42AM Er, she means that it's Shaggy's first meet and greet he's done specifically via the Internet, and so he wanted to so something special by appearing in Second Life rether than using MSN or other text chats.

Sorry if that was unclear. I've been a resident in SL for almost four years and would hate to appear to be a clueless RL promoter! :)

May 24th 2007 3:26AM Yes, I was contacted by Spike yesterday with the good news shortly before the downtime. Thanks to everyone for their support, especially to Tateru for her concern and help in this matter.

And thanks to the Linden team for their swift action when they were preparing for an update.

Mar 15th 2007 6:40AM Interesting points Tat - perhaps the critical mass will be achieved by multiple virtual worlds creating a paradigm shift of perception where VWs become the norm rather than the alternative.
