Interview - Plastic Duck / Gene Replacement

Second Life Insider

Nov 13th 2006 9:37AM Since obviously I have no idea what this person did or did not do, I can't comment on that. What wasn't asked about, i.e. what Linden Labs says about him, seems like a glaring omission. What's his side of the story?

Interview - Plastic Duck / Gene Replacement

Second Life Insider

Nov 11th 2006 10:38AM I don't get a feeling from this article what exactly Plastic Duck is known for, for those of us he joined after he was banned. I note he was asked about "creating, technical interest, collaborative artistry"? No questions about why precisely he was banned?

Just Askin': Are RL Names Important?

Second Life Insider

Nov 6th 2006 10:01AM I guess I'm just not that interested in people's real name, as most of the time I want to read about what they have done in Second Life. I wasn't too worried about my real name, although I've learned from blogging under my real name it might be easier to be anonymous. For example, if your employer has political views the opposite of your own.

Just Askin': Wear on Head/Wear on Hand

Second Life Insider

Oct 25th 2006 5:31PM Is that pic from the Plywood webcomic? I thought that was a hilarious strip, sorry to hear it ended.

The move to the hand is smart. People wear a lot of things on their head such as prim hair, hats, or in the case of furries, their "real" heads.

Animations for beginners

Second Life Insider

Oct 25th 2006 1:37PM How it repositions them depends on the attachment and animation. It's been my experience if you are not too far apart it will bring you together, but it doesn't account for big height differences, and if you turn you will be misaligned during the "hug".

I've seen freebie hugs in one of the freebie packs outside the Forum (find it via search).

Prokofy rent boy shock

Oct 24th 2006 9:41AM I think people should be allowed to sell their namespace. If they know that their profile gets many views, it makes it a commoditty to advertise there. Should there be a different standard for those thought of as journalists or columnists in Second Life? One reason we accept the use of advertising in newspapers is we think there is a kind of wall between the advertisers and what the reporters of the papers report on. We expect advertisers will not directly dictate the content of the stories.

I would say if an individual reporter - not a paper - started accepting advertising in their profile, it would seem the wall of neutrality would look paper thin, even if it was actually secure in the the mind of the reporter. Imagine Andy Rooney, for example, started selling ad space on his person web site - if he had one - to business such as Ritz Crackers. He's hit them in the past for keeping their boxes the same size while reducing the number of crackers inside. Would we still trust him to be as straightforward in his Ritz related reportage? Probably. In selling his own namespace, is he leaving a negative taint on his position as commentator? Probably.

Wired: Must-have SL Stuff

Second Life Insider

Oct 19th 2006 3:43PM I still think it's weird to see the RL names. Not explained is if the person didn't mind it being published, or the media source didn't allow them to be anonymous. I'm glad I'm not SL famous, or they might start printing things like how I'm not 6'5" like my avatar in real life. ;)

Wired calls Second Life the coolest place on the web

Second Life Insider

Sep 28th 2006 1:52PM Aimee seemed nice enbough the times I've met her, and I like the places I've seen her build. Alas I do not have a gal-alt, so have not tried on her clothing lines, but they don't look badly photosourced to me. These kind of vague attacks always tell me more about petty jealousy in the game than the quality of one person's work.

I have never rented/bought property from Anshe, so I don't know much about her. The whole land buying/rental business is not something that much interested me, to be honest. Well-made builds are interesting to read about, so I will have to swing buy and pick up a copy of Wired I guess.

Aug 14th 2006 5:21PM I find your leave-Torley-alone ideas inspiring, as she is a cheerleader that actually makes one think - unlike most real ones.

However, I must insist on wearing pants.

I wonder if there is good forum mashing software out there, so I don't have to track 10 different forums to find out what people are saying and doing...
