Open Letter: Resident festival instead of Linden festival
Massively
Jun 18th 2008 9:01AM There are fringe festivals in many Canadian cities during the summer as well, but they aren't the small ugly cousin to something larger happening at the same time - they are the main event. In Saskatoon, for example, the Fringe Festival one of the most popular festivals of the year.

Just Askin' - payment problems?
Second Life Insider
Oct 17th 2007 4:49PM Escrow services can help with the payment issue. I've used escrow.com for SL jobs and it worked fine. Yes, there's a fee, but I just see it as a cost of doing business.
More generally, this comes down to issues of trust and credibility. Ebay rankings are a hint of what the future might bring.
In response to the previous commenter: If we assume that SL is a video game, then why does that mean people creating content for it shouldn't get paid? The last I heard, lots of people were getting paid to make content for video games.

On Advertising
Second Life Insider
Jul 21st 2007 9:01AM You ask, "How long will SL remain blissfully ad-free?" but there have been ads as long as I've been a resident (around 2 years). A good example is the banner ad for SLexchange that stores often put out to let visitors know that their items are also available there. Another example is the ad that real-estate sellers put on their parcels for sale.

Jul 18th 2007 11:13AM Did you notice the brief clip of Aimee (of SL Insider) wearing a police uniform?
Also, it was neat how they characterized Second Life as "the most popular online metaverse". No confusion about SL being a game. How refreshing!
American significance on the wane?
Second Life Insider
May 6th 2007 2:08AM Another possible factor is that more people in the American timezones are using SL *during the day* as part of their work. A lot of my librarian and science outreach friends fall into this category. IBM is another example.
