Good Magazine - poor article

Second Life Insider

Oct 21st 2007 10:24PM As Jacek said(http://tinyurl.com/3avlb5), Bowerman, basically, wrote the same thing as one of Wired's SL reviews. Unfortunate article in an otherwise interesting magazine.

Though, in his defense, I don't think that this article was written after the gambling ban was put in place. His avatar was born in March, so if that may have been when he did the "research" for this.

SLeek, the Lightweight Client for SL

Jul 19th 2007 2:15AM Well, so far it seems to be pretty nifty for basic communication and such. Teleports aren't working for me, but that's the largest problem I've encountered so far.

Just Askin': Are big businesses ruining Second Life?

Second Life Insider

Jan 28th 2007 1:35PM Yes and no.

I see companies like NBC who are coming in and actually doing things in-world and keeping their company name present in the minds of residents. And the events that they have been putting on seem to be above the standard grade of cheesy "attract customers and run" fare.

However, there are other businesses that have come into the world, done an announcement, left some products, and then just disappear leaving deserted sims behind in their wake.

Though I think a lot of it has to do with how well a companies business model can adapt to SL. Example: what kind of events can the car companies hold that aren't races and will garner user interest? I can't really think of any.

However, look at a business as large as NBC and they have a vast array of event possibilites open to them. (I, personally, want to see a recreation of the Office set sometime soon.)

Jan 2nd 2007 5:35PM Whoa! I didn't realize that one could start a conference IM. That will be extremely helpful in the future. Thanks!

Just Askin': Do friends come and go more easily?

Second Life Insider

Dec 22nd 2006 1:47PM I'd have to agree. In the (almost) six months that I've been in SL, I've lost regular communication with quite a few people that I was good pals with.

When I look back at it, I can honestly say I don't know what happened. I don't think they would know either if you asked them.

But it always makes me smile when I suddenly get an IM from one of them at random.

Just Askin': Do you dip or dive?

Second Life Insider

Dec 16th 2006 11:56PM I'm definately a dipper. Currently, that's because of my RL job, but even when that slows down I'll probably still be a dipper, mainly because there's a bunch of other things that I love to do, i.e. cycling, stargazing, tennis, playing other comp/console games, or just reading. So I don't want SL to take up all of my time. It's part of my "routine" and that's what makes it enjoyable. It makes every "visit" seem special and keeps me from getting burned out.
