Casualty of War - Torrid Midnight
Second Life Insider
Sep 9th 2006 12:34PM My view of it is that the people that felt like they had their work stolen went way too far, and that the counter reaction from Torrid was also a bit too strong, but the situation isn't as simple as all that.
There was Torrid, and perhaps Mistress to stand up for her, against the "offended" designers, but mostly against the ignorant types that lowered themselves to wishing ill upon Torrid. I sincerely hope that it wasn't actually Amby, Lost, and Starley sending such completely immature hate IMs, as until now I had every reason to like the three... it really does sound like something out of high school.
But at the same time, I can't really believe that they would so selfishly attack Torrid over something like personal skin modifications? I feel like there must be something more to it. I agree just as much as anyone else that the exploit that allows textures to be stolen should not exist, but since its not going away any time soon, I also don't see the problem with making modifications to skins for personal use. The people that will actually take advantage of it and steal your work are not people you're going to know, and you'll never hear about it until it's too late.
But that's besides the point... driving someone out of SL, making them feel like utter crap is completely wrong, and those responsible should be ashamed of themselves and should be held accountable. I don't care if she was in perfect health, and was not a saint as far as SL is concerned, its just wrong, and it saddens me that people would stoop this low over a petty argument, the result of which would harm neither party.
That said, I'd like to hear from the other side of this of this sometime, I want to know exactly what it was that went on from both sides, I just can't see the three that were mentioned being this cruel and petty.
