The Cancer Blog
Sep 18th 2007 3:35PM Although I only had the privilege of blogging for The Cancer Blog for a few months, I want to thank Weblogs Inc. for giving me this opportunity.
Blogging for The Cancer Blog was so rewarding for me. I got the chance to learn so much about the many sides of cancer, from the news topics and research to the inspirational people I blogged about, and also from my fellow bloggers and our readers and commenters.
I am, of course, sad to see this space close, as I think we all are, yet I feel very honored that I was able to share it with all of you.

I found your story inspirational and a great example of the power of people taking control of their own care.
Thank you for sharing your story with the world and I hope you make it to 22 months and far beyond!

Jul 16th 2007 12:43PM Hi Glenda, thanks for your comment. I am so sorry to hear about your experience.
I am not 100% sure what laws protect working cancer patients.
The only one I can think of at the federal level would be FMLA which would allow for 12 weeks of unpaid leave, which I believe can be taken in pieces, as long as you qualify.
Perhaps some other cancer survivors out there have some tips for you?
I wish you all the best, Patricia
Mommy Wars: why we fight
ParentDish
Sep 19th 2006 2:54PM I've been thinking a lot about these "Mommy Wars" lately, and not just the ones that go on between the SAHMs and WOHMs.
There are so many of these wars, breastfeeding vs. bottlefeeding, cosleeping vs. cribs, to circ or not to circ, attachment parenting vs. not attachment parenting, natural childbirth versus drugs, C-sections vs. vaginals, TV or no TV, homeschooling versus traditional schooling, the list goes on.
While we all have our opinions on all of these things and our reasoning for doing what we do with regards to them all, this is the big question I have....
Why do we care what OTHER mothers do with their children? Why do we have to judge them? Why can't we just worry about our own children and lives? Do we really care about the other children THAT much? Or are we using these issues as another way to be 'one up' on each other, are we competing with each other?
Competing at work is one thing, competing in sports, great. I'm not sure how we raise our children is an area that we want to compete with each other. Competitive mothering stinks. It takes a a religious fervor, where like religion, people from two different religions technically can't be right.
We need to just worry about ourselves and our own families and stop criticizing each other.
