Oct 8th 2006 8:23PM I'm not sure why you are so bitter about CWD, Debbie. I am the treasurer of the company, so I can speak for the financials as I did in my earlier comments. CWD obviously helps a lot of people around the world, as it has helped Ms. Beatty. However, the website is not everyone's cup of tea. If you feel so negative about it, I simply suggest you spend your reading energy elsewhere.
A Dad creates an online community for his diabetic daughter

Oct 6th 2006 8:04AM What most people don't know is that Jeff Hitchcock nearly lost his home, his savings, and his entire 401k in trying to get the Childrenwithdiabetes.com website started as an official for-profit business in 2001. With the support of some of the major diabetes companies, the website and conferences have become what they are today - a tremendous support and educational tool for families and kids with type 1. Btw, contrary to what some may think, CWD does not reap a fortune from sponsorships and advertising. Conferences are break-even events (every penny of the sponsorship dollars pays for the food the participants eat) and website advertising dollars are used to build more pieces of the website (for example, the new CWD Welcome Kit and the Type 2 in Children sections). btw, I happen to love the sugar free maple syrup; we use it all the time.
Am I sounding defensive? Yep. Jeff Hitchcock has the most integrity - and devotion to his daughter and all families with type 1 - of any person I know. And he and the website were there for me and my family when Sam was dx'd 8 years ago. We met our CWD family on day 2 out of the hospital
