Interview - Plastic Duck / Gene Replacement

Second Life Insider

Nov 12th 2006 1:02PM I have no quarrel with the interviewer's basic desire to obtain this interview, for the reason that Xs mentioned. I am reminded, however, that every interview gives glimpses into more than one personality.

As for the interviewee, Prokofy's remarks (and, I suppose, Catherine Linden's) are mostly dead on. There's nothing remotely admirable about someone who's prepared to anonymously, callously, and repeatedly disrupt the privacy and dignity of others to remind himself of his own cleverness. And at the end of the day, when the tedious little standard-issue decoys about Teaching Necessary Lessons To Society are all swept away, that's what this is about.

A facile punk is still a punk.

As for the Liaisons and other social inferiors, I think they were placed there to nurture an open society, not to "babysit a closed Beta." And yes, I suppose they're "cheaper" than good developers. That puts them in good company, at least here in the USA. These days, all manner of honorable and essential occupations go without dotcom-level salaries.
