Sparky the robodog reacts accordingly to surroundings

Engadget

Jun 1st 2008 3:43PM Why would it drop it's head when it smells beer? I want my robo dog to seek out the things I like, beer, a dark and cool environment (with a lack of smoke), and of course, lots of hot company.

Where's my beer and boob detecting pet? Could it look a bit less like a mail box? It'd be great if it looked more like a set of pub chairs and a table.

Polite? *gigglesnort*

Aug 3rd 2007 3:20PM I have been in a few online environments, the others were first person shooters, like Counter Strike, Day of Defeat, WWII On Line, and Red Orchestra.

All of the twitchy FPS's that had younger guys in them were full of asshats. The games that required more patience, Red Orchestra and especially WWII OL, had very few nasty people in them.

So, in comparison, there are fewer annoying people in SL than the first person shooters I have played, but that's not surprising, the age level in SL is higher, and the there is little competition.

On the street, when you have a red mohawk, are nearly 8 feet tall, ripped, and covered with tattoos, people are pretty reluctant to mess with you. In SL I still get an occasional griefer.

I imagine if you were dressed in a furry costume, the same might apply -- for different reasons. XD

Just Askin': How transparent is Linden Lab when there are problems?

Second Life Insider

Jul 30th 2007 12:55PM Having something on the blog page, when the problem is obviously bad, would be helpful, if not critical to smooth operations.

Having someone be an emergency coordinator would also be a good idea. When emergencies crop up that person coordinates the investigation and the work that needs to be done to fix the problem.

When you are knee deep in patches and code it's hard to remember other things that are critical, like follow through, positive identification of the problem, and doing documentation, like making a post to the blog.

Just Askin': How Would You Fix SL's UI?

Jul 1st 2007 6:15PM Landmarks need a history -- back and forward buttons included -- just like a browser. There should be a place for personal notes on each landmark.

Inventory should be 3d, just like SL. Icons for each category(snapshot, texture, object, etc) should be on each inventory item, as well as room for custom icons for each product (a thumbnail for snapshots for example). There should be three views for inventory: icon list, detailed list, and 3d (imagine scrolling side to side through each category/folders, then front to back through the items).

When you make a new folder, it should automagically put you into rename for it, no one likes a folder named "New Folder". Notecards, textures and images should have click-able names on the window when viewing, to make it easier to rename them.

Friends lists need user defined categories.

Are you an augmenter or an immersionist? Just askin'

Jun 11th 2007 2:47PM I look at my SL avatar as an extension of the hidden parts of my ego. As I get older, those hidden parts don't seem to need hiding anymore, so I suspect my character and I will merge more as time passes.

At times SL becomes a sandbox where I can test and play with ideas, some of which will have no place in my everyday life, others that will.

So, I fall into both categories, being both augmenter and an immersionist.

Just Askin': First Life or Real Life?

Second Life Insider

Jun 4th 2007 5:26PM I have to go with Real Life, because it already has RL and irl associated with it. FL might cause confusion.
:-)

Just Askin': Do you see this as a sudden reversal in policy?

Second Life Insider

Jun 4th 2007 3:00PM I think something is changing. (What I'm most afraid of is that they plan to merge the teen grid with the rest of SL.)

"... Broadly offensive [behavior] must be contained within private land in areas rated Mature (M)."

"Our Community Standards have always prohibited broadly offensive behavior."

Prohibited is not the same as "must be contained to Mature areas".

Jun 4th 2007 2:46PM "is there any doubt that sex and gambling (and other mildly illegal stuff) stimulate growth?"

... heh heh, he said "stimulate growth".

Hey, brocchierir: Sex is illegal in your part of the world? Must be a lot of parents in jail. Just kidding with you -- you make very good points! ;-)

It's no longer ironic that Old White Legislators who write sex=sin laws are also caught committing acts of "extreme adultery" -- with gay, furry, age-playing, drug using prostitutes. Why people put up with sex=sin laws baffles me; can all those people really be such blushing innocents?

Sex is popular on TV, in Movies, in print, in bedrooms, in SL, and on the Internet toobs because people love sex. The people who don't like sex are a tiny minority, no matter how vocal.

Just say no to dumb rules that take away your freedoms.

Just Askin': Do you trust it?

Second Life Insider

May 18th 2007 3:40PM My trust level is about the same as credit card verification. If a child can steal or get a CC to be verified, then verification by any other means involving any other cards, such as SS, drivers license, etc. is equal. Unsupervised "bad" children will defeat this verification system if they want to.

Supervised Internet use -- parents closely monitoring their children's Internet use -- is more effective than an age verification system, and it places the burden where it should be, on the parents.

Parents should pay the price of a window when a child willfully breaks it with a rock; why shouldn't parents have to monitor their child's use of the Internet to prevent the rest of us from having to pay for verification systems that won't work?

Apr 18th 2007 5:48PM MorphVox Pro seems to be something that works with Skype, and I'm guessing it might work with SL. I'll give it a try later and let ya know.
