OpenOffice.org keeps getting slower with each new release
Download Squad
May 29th 2008 4:45PM It is indeed an open secret that OO.o can be lethargic. But we shouldn't apologize for it. Open source programs can be made better, stronger AND faster if performance is made a priority.
Look at Firefox - it earned detractors claiming it leaked memory and was slower than IE.
In version 3.0, the devs sat down and tackled the complaints, overhauled the whole memory subsystem and in the process Firefox 3.0 beta is already using less memory and running quicker than the competition.
IMHO, until OO.o looks at performance (and usability), they'll be forever labeled as "almost as good as Microsoft Office, but hey it's free" instead of "It's the best, period."

Why Internet Explorer 8 might not pass the Acid2 test
Download Squad
Mar 6th 2008 9:40AM Acid2 is basically a torture test with different web standards, so there is variable scoring from 0-100%.
Firefox 2 only partially passes Acid2 (it does handle it much better than IE7). Firefox 3, however, passes 100%.
Mozilla Messaging to work on Thunderbird 3, the future of communication

Feb 19th 2008 1:34PM Hopefully this subsidiary will bring magic to Thunderbird the way the restructured Mozilla Corporation+Foundation has brought success to Firefox. Thunderbird is a good email program, but clearly can go to even higher heights.
Seriously improving the Sunbird calendar to give it some PIM-like capabilities is a good start. I don't consider it bloat.

A good place to get a rough estimate of comic book prices is comicspriceguide.com.
Do note that comic book collectors are very strict in their definition of "mint"; a 10 point scale is used with 10.0 being "Mint"...and basically impossible to achieve.
Discolouration in the inner pages or minute creases in the spine can drop a book's value tremendously. Even a flattened spine (such as if it has been underneath a pile of comic books) may bring a book to a "very fine/near mint" rating. A dog ear or tear can render a book worthless.

The rubberized front plate is an interesting choice; I suppose we don't have to worry about dropping it on the floor.

I could never figure out why electrical cars generate so much stink. If everyone's attitude was like this, we would still be riding horses instead of those "dirty, filthy horseless carriages".
As for the overestimate: It's a new company. It's their first product. Your Mileage May Vary, literally.
It is and will be a niche product. They themselves know this. But as Dave Lawson said, it may be the start of something more. Let the market decide.
