Linden Lab announces new policy on gambling, wagering

Second Life Insider

Jul 26th 2007 3:19AM hmmmm I don't agree that it's clear and unambiguous. I was left wondering if sploder balls and so forth are covered, since I have no idea how the prizes are calculated (and why should I?). If they are covered then they should have been explicitly listed like the other items, which are clearly casino-style gambling games. And what about SLingo, Tringo etc? No mention of these either. How am I meant to know how they operate and therefore whether they are legal or not?

Do I rely on the operator's interpretation of the Rules?

Meh. What a shame to throw the baby out with the bathwater.... but that's what happens when volume comes into play.

Jul 11th 2007 9:37AM umm is there more coming? You said some of the results - so I assume there is, because I know of a few good men's designers that aren't up there....

BUT, thank you for two that I didn't know about before :-)

Jun 18th 2007 2:05AM hmm. Yes, very wordy, and full of pseudo-legalese. Not well thought out at all. It will miss the mark with residents too, I think.

I have a masters degree, am over 30 and english is my first language. But to be frank, I was unable to understand what the letter was getting at in the first four paragraphs, so I cant see how people with poor English skills are going to follow this one at all.

I'm afraid I stopped reading once I got horribly confused - and I suspect that will be the same as many others. This is a shame, as it's an important issue, but I won't sign off on something I don't understand.

This needs a LOT more work.

Lotusphere 2007 goes virtual

Jan 25th 2007 12:55AM But is this open to the public?

I was very disappointed to discover that the Australian Open thing isn't. Took me forever to find out where it was, and then I wasn't authorised to enter. None of the articles talking about how great it was had anymention of where it was, how to get in, or how to get an invitation :-(

I'd love to see what they do with Lotusphere being a big Notes fan, but maybe it's only for registered conference goers....

Hyperbole! (The New Genocide)

Second Life Insider

Jan 7th 2007 9:19PM Well it's like the boy who called wolf isn't it. People stop listening after a while and when the wolf really does come, nobody believes the boy. I have to say that I think Prok has experienced this with the Plastic Duck Phone Call Incident. Its also common sense - you have no where to go if everything is a total disaster and all hurts are heinous crimes....

With Prok, I think messages are lost in the repetition and arguing of opinions, as well as the hyperbole. I have no problems with an opinion piece (even with hyperbole) and I have no problems with a rebuttal to an opposing view in the comments section. The problem arises when the response to the rebuttal is also rebutted and then a dance begins that is not only boorish but boring. Prok and to some extent, Urizenous now seem to just take over the comments section of pretty much all articles in the SLH to the point where I wonder why anyone would post there. Frankly I've stopped reading comments from those two because they come across as such bullies (there's a little hyperbole back at ya :-)- people with different opinions get shouted down with the weight of words (in Prok's case) or vented spleen (in Uri's case) if they but squeek with dissent.

BUT

I totally agree with Prok that Plastic Duck's call was uber creepy, especially because her daughter answered the phone. In an Australian court it might actually be considered stalking or harassment, taken in the context of the background to this incident. Some things are judged by their effect on the victim, and harassment is one of those (well in Australia anyway). If Prok felt assaulted then it *was* assault to her and I can empathise cos I've experienced creepy phone calls myself and the feelings are very very real.

It's a shame that this very disturbing incident is getting buried/minimised under the hyperbole of the persona.....

Maybe there's a lesson in that. Extremists of all stripes are generally dismissed even when they do make valid points. I can think of oh so many examples......

Dec 2nd 2006 7:05PM Actually I don't think Classifieds are working. Some keywords get a few results (eg "animation. pose") where usually there are hundreds, others get no results at all. Since it sounds like people would have placed classifieds before the Troubles, this appears to be an issue relating to the Places problem. Or, even if it is working, there are substantially less classifieds because of other problems, so the effect is the same :-(

Very annoying as I was looking for some specific poseballs and animations this weekend.
