What didn't you hear about?

Second Life Insider

Jun 8th 2007 8:08PM I lost all of my animations. I had just purchased a new AO and loaded it with new animations. They are all gone. No where to be found

I have been stuck in my house. I am too embarrassed to go out and walk like a newbie.

Age/Identity verification and adult content flagging issues and information roundup

Second Life Insider

May 13th 2007 2:28PM I allow building on my land. Often a newbie, I have mentored, will hang around a number of days or weeks and practice building on my land. What if someone puts up so called “adult” material on my land when I am offline. Will I be responsible? According to what I read in the LL statements, I will be.

So do I stop building, set auto return to the lowest possible setting? While I am at it, maybe I should set up a security orb that will boot you off my land, just in case you are underage or one of those horrible child avatars?

Will Second Life lose it altruists? Will it become like the US where no one can risk anything because of ligation? Will free exploration come to an end?

I really feel sorry for those friends of mine who are Lindens. I would hate to have to try and defend the company line. I have never been able to lie with a straight face.

Resident Snapshot: Gwyneth Llewelyn

Second Life Insider

Feb 9th 2007 2:17PM As a brand new Greeter at the tender age of nine weeks, Gwyneth was one of the first people I met on the new Help Island when it was being built. She was like a mentor to mentors.

Gwyn has always been one of my SL heroines. I admire her greatly and wish to emulate her. You did well having her as a resident snapshot.

Censorship and freedom

Second Life Insider

Jan 8th 2007 11:32PM I have debated commenting off and on all day. I have decided that my sense of fairness compels me to do so.

I have personally felt Prokofy’s acid pen. He called me just about every demeaning and insulting name and adjective possible. Afterward, I attempted, without success, to have him banned from that forum for the virulent attack he leveled against me. Prokofy thinks very little of me. So, I am hardly a Porkofy apologist.

However, I believe, banning him from Second Life Insider was wrong and I suspect politically motivated. Although I have not read everyone, I have seen nothing close to what he wrote about me in any of his posts that I have read.

There is a big difference between long, endless, conspiracy theory arguments and outright character assassination. I have seen nothing approaching the latter in any posts I have read. I have seen many people ridicule, taunt, and provoke him in this and other venues.

Like Carl, I believe SLI has harmed itself and shown a lack of integrity by banning Porkofy. While the owners of SLI are free to do as they choose, I believe they should consider the ramifications and the loss of impartiality such actions reflect.

I read SLI because I felt it offered a balanced approach and broad range of information on Second Life. Does SLI want to become an extension of the Linden Blog where they censor the information that go out and comes in? LL is trying to paint Second Life in the best possible light. I can understand their actions better than I can SLI’s.

Hyperbole! (The New Genocide)

Second Life Insider

Jan 7th 2007 10:14AM Amiee, this is a two part comment to your post. We have never met, however, I admire you for what you have done for SL which, I am sure is more than just nice SL clothes.

I think the hyperbole, of which you speak, is only an SL reflection of our RL world. We see politicians using hyperbole and spin in attempts to use smoke and mirrors, for a lack of honesty and integrity. Radio is filled with people attempting to shout each other down. Advertizement is known for selling the sizzle and not the steak.

I for all practical purposes have quit posting on offline forums because of two occasions where innocent, if ignorant, statements I made without any intent of malice or hidden motives were taken in ways which I never intended. The result in both cases was an all out written attack on me, full of accusations, invectives and profanity. This may be a play world. However, the physical and emotional effects on me were real.

Secondly, call it what you want. But, anyone calling a SL avatar in the real world without permission is flat out wrong. Whatever anyone thinks of Prokofy Neva, contacting his real life person is just wrong. It is wrong to attempt to contact you, me, Prokofy, or anyone else in RL without permission. While you may not have approved of his choice of words, I think his anger was real and justified.

My point is that the line between SL and RL is very hazy. Little that we do in SL has no RL consequences.

Volunteer program changes

Second Life Insider

Jan 4th 2007 8:17AM “Now, as to "an unfriendly and combative atmosphere promulgated by a minority of volunteers. Pathfinder resolved to investigate and to explore effective measures for reducing internal friction."

I can't imagine what this is about, but given that it is a power system to start with, it's not surprising that there are struggles of power within it.”

This is about the IM channels. Some of the volunteers consider anything other than official announcements to be channel spam. A still smaller minority will aggressively chastise those whom they consider offenders. Some of the newer volunteers are intimated by the vociferous “oldies” and are afraid to ask questions on the channel.

If I understood Pathfinder correctly at the meeting, he will be investigating the history of the alleged channel spam (it seems that there is an old rule against questions being asked) and ways to make it more fruitful to all mentor/greeters and thereby more helpful to the people we serve. The new wilki will go a long way in providing needed answers to new volunteers.

Prokofy Neva banned from the Linden Blog

Dec 8th 2006 6:33PM For once, I actually agree with Porkofy Neva.
