Robert Leatherwood is a loser, settles with Eros LLC

Massively

Mar 21st 2008 6:34PM Going by the news articles I'm reading today, Robert is far from being the loser here.
No fines. No jail time. Just a heavily padded slap on the wrist with him saying he won't copy or use any of the content made by Eros LLC.

Big ****ing deal. There are how many other designers for the stupid prick to steal from?
Naturaly the news media is playing up his sob story side of things. "I wasn't out to do a huge market thing. I was doing it for a little bit of money."
Let's gear that up with the same philosophy but a different situation:
"I wasn't drinking and driving every night of the month, only on the first Friday of every month"
"I wasn't reselling thousands of copies of Microsoft Vista, I was only selling a couple to make some money"
"I wasn't out to kill an entire race like Hitler was, I was just killing a couple people who I was annoyed with."

Pathetic, useless, waste of oxygen. Guaranteed to return in one way or another and continue to make a living stealing and reselling other peoples work.

The only good news to come out of this is that these little pricks will learn the hard way that you *can* be tracked down in RL.

'Anti-social' behavior much more innocuous in Second Life

Massively

Nov 2nd 2007 7:17PM Ha! thought you could escape me? Silly canine. :)

I find the concept of the bot somewhat laughable. The description of how it works just described half the newbies I run into (or am run into by). And they aren't out to cause trouble or research things, they are just trying to find their way around SL.

PS.. how do I get an account set up for commenting. this confirmation with e-mail thing is getting old. :)

Nov 2nd 2007 7:11PM Case and point: Grid go boom. No logins for lots of people, and nothing but the sound of silence and the gentle breeze blowing where once stood proud and tall the Second Life Insider.

*sniffles*.

I say us commenters take over and use the comments in this thread to post new stuff for SLI. WE WILL KEEP IT ALIVE DAMNIT!! AUHHHGG!!!!!

ok. I feel better now.

Nov 2nd 2007 2:17PM While I am happy that you have a new venture up and running, I am saddened that it has happened this way.
Second Life Insider was a daily read for me, and more importantly, if anything at all was wrong with the grid, the info was out about it here before the Lindens even pondered posting about it on the SL blog.
My first impression of the Massively page was "gamer site". Literally.
It is your data, time and money, therefore your choice. I am sad however that this is what has been done. :(

Wonderland scandal spreads through the media

Second Life Insider

Oct 30th 2007 11:40PM Last I read the ToS and the CS, there really isn't anything directly specific to age play. In fact it seems they dulled down the ToS and CS to pretty much allow them to not have to take any action at all unless the violation is in a PG region (and it's doubtful they would take action then even).

LL stops up a communication channel?

Second Life Insider

Oct 30th 2007 5:06PM It comes as no surprise to me that LL is dropping yet another form of communication for people.
They apparently have the final goal of not having to deal with the customers at all.
As for the "growing" comment, Eloise, I find it difficult to believe that Second Life is growing "fast" when the on-line concurrency has seen only a few thousand increase over the past 5 or so months. Yes, it *is* increasing, but it seems like it was in the upper 40,000's for a very long time, and only now have i recently logged on and seen 50,000+ more than once within a week.

Linden Lab double-bills tier for some users

Second Life Insider

Oct 29th 2007 7:25PM I'd hope there is a law regarding that. Otherwise unethical companies like LL could simply grab a few million dollars when they are in a fix and then blame it on human error.

Linden Lab double-bills tier for some users

Second Life Insider

Oct 29th 2007 1:13PM So... what happens when LL bills someone double for tier on an island, and instead of just pulling $ from the persons SL account, it also pulls from their bank account, which then has no $ to cover the check to the loan company that holds the title to their car?
Or their mortgage payment?

What will LL say when someone gets their credit rating dinged because LL can't count?
Somehow I don't think that "We're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused" is going to cut it.

Petition LL for Improved Animal Rights

Second Life Insider

Oct 24th 2007 2:28PM I agree with Tateru. I can't see how Linden Lab can say it's not against the ToS or Community Standards.
If this story is valid, this is yet another example of Linden Lab ignoring a problem because it doesn't effect them.
Having just looked through the ToS and Community Standards, it seems some changes have been made (that I clearly do not remember being informed of).
"Content, communication, or behavior which involves intense language or expletives, nudity or sexual content, the depiction of sex or violence, or anything else broadly offensive must be contained within private land in areas rated Mature (M)."
If I remember correctly, the ToS and/or Community Standards at one point made clear that content of extreme violence in nature was not acceptable.
Apparently now all you need is for it to be in a Mature region and anything goes.
I don't even see a spot for "restricted content" in the CS or ToS.
Doing a search in the ToS for the words "restricted", as well as "pornography", "violent", and "violence" returns ONE. The word "violence" as used in the paragraph quoted above.

Avatars Across Worlds: Nay, No, Feh

Second Life Insider

Oct 24th 2007 2:14PM Notice how many times words like "game" or "games" are used in the article.

The person writing has no concept of what portability can best be used for potentially.
Multiple worlds are showing up, and standards are starting to come about. This is not about "games" anymore. It's about *business*. It's about watching systems like Second Life pop up all over and be focused on making money. Shopping online going from 2D to 3D, etc.
People need to get out of the ****ing "It's a game!" mindset with virtual worlds now. There are a lot of games out there to be sure, but there are a quickly growing number of non-games as well. For starters, this is because lots of people who are fed up with the inability of LL to fix Second Life are looking for other places to socialize. Smart business-minded people are seeing this massive vacuum and starting their own systems. Some of those systems are becoming popular, and they recognize that one thing that might hold people back from switching is the inability to keep their Avatar.
Second Life is ripe for picking as accounts go. There are a lot of people looking for an alternative. Portability would certainly give people options.
