No, it's in the hands of some fundamental properties of Chemistry and Physics.

GM hopes to give Chevy Volt battery 10 year/150,000 mile warranty

Aug 6th 2008 8:27AM GM is so far in debt that it cannot recover just by the sale of cars even under the most optimistic scenario. The only thing that will save GM is a massive taxpayer-funded bailout. Don't count on them for any significant innovations -- especially if they continue to pour money down the "hydrogen economy" black hole.

MIT researchers develop inexpensive new catalyst for hydrogen production

Aug 6th 2008 8:20AM If hydrogen was FREE, it would still be a lousy, environmentally dirty, inefficient, and hazardous fuel. About the only thing hydrogen does really well is make ethanol look good by comparison.

And it isn't free. It costs substantially more than the energy equivalent of gasoline.

Aug 6th 2008 7:55AM Muslims are past masters at using the tolerance of their host countries to stealthily implement their own brand of intolerance, the logical conclusion of which is the total implementation of sharia law.

VIDEO: When will cars fly? Maybe this October.

Aug 5th 2008 1:57PM As a private pilot, I would hate to see the day when cars fly. Fortunately, for a variety of reasons, it won't happen. Kinda like the "hydrogen economy" -- the reality is that it just is not practical.

Shimano introduces "shift-by-wire" for high-end bicycles

Autoblog Green

Aug 2nd 2008 6:20PM Neat, I suppose. But I purchased a fairly nice, sturdy 7-speed bicycle (including helmet, flashing taillight, and locking cable) that is adequate for my needs for about one-tenth what this electronic shifter alone costs. This shifter is pretty much either for world-class athletes to whom the elimination of 30 grams of weight is something that would be worth $2500, or for folks who have so much money that it doesn't matter.

Internet sales falter as a possible salvation for newspapers

Aug 2nd 2008 2:17PM The historypaper is doomed. News availability on the internet is faster and better in almost every way, and can be filtered to suit whatever bias the reader already has, and searched. For those of us with no bird cage to line, there simply isn't much need for dead-tree historypapers. And since most of the MSM is bleeding-heart Liberal, that makes it even less valuable.

Obama calls for $1,000 consumer energy rebates

Aug 2nd 2008 1:47PM The one candidate who *didn't* have a clue about how to get votes. You get votes by out-promising your rival(s). That's also how democracies devolve into dictatorships. The end of a democracy inevitably occurs shortly after the electorate discovers that it can vote itself the proceeds of the public treasury.

Obama's ONLY concern is getting elected, and he's going to say and do whatever he thinks will accomplish that (with the exception of choosing Hillary for a running mate -- probably because wants to survive his first term in office). Unfortunately, the RINO on the other side is not much better in that regard, but he at least appears to be playing his cards slightly better.

With a $15.5 billion loss, can GM or its CEO survive?

BloggingStocks

Aug 1st 2008 10:58AM GM will lose the remaining 16% of its share value in the next 6 years or so unless they can get a massive government (i.e., taxpayer-funded) bailout. They are so far in the hole that they can't sell enough cars to recover even in the most optimistic scenario. They can't even service their current debt load without borrowing.

In particular, don't hold your breath waiting for the Volt to save GM. I expect them to continue selling the family furniture, or using it for firewood, until nothing is left.
