Avatar rights: A person chooses, a tool obeys
Massively
Jan 15th 2008 2:24PM I can't quite agree with you Tateru, mainly because while I get the concept, there are other tools that have very large rights protections such as e-mail. I feel, though, while certain rights are well out of the question, some rights for avatars - especially when owner created content is applied has to be set into place.
Peering inside - Second Life's user retention
Massively
Dec 25th 2007 12:40AM Say the retention is still at 10%, that's not a bad number, mainly because of the population growth. So 10% just means that MORE people who are signing in are staying rather than last year.

Dec 17th 2007 12:11PM You would think at this point people would have gotten more creative with responses, like posting a recipe to some great eggnog (by the way... do you have the recipe to great eggnog?)

Nov 18th 2007 9:21PM The coverage is quite interesting, and I'm glad all of the articles aren't WoW based... one thing that would be really cool to see is a review of each mmo (or at least a brief pro-con comparison, what works what doesn't) while the hands-on look is great why should if I were to look at a new MMO, why should I get into Tabula Rosa over Anarchy Online or should I REALLY wait for Age of Conan opposed to hopping into something else?
Intellectual property: If it's not nailed down ...

Nov 10th 2007 10:21PM There's another thing here guys that maybe I'm just missing but... flickr has this option of having your images be protected under the creative commons (CC) - the two people who have their images stolen I do not see any creative commons assignments on them - which could lead into someone thinking that they can steal them and use them - one advise is that regardless of the protections under SL... make sure that your images are protected visibly by the CC - that at least gives you some additional non SL ground to work on.

Nov 2nd 2007 2:03PM Yeah, this is even a bit bigger than just virtual worlds - think about it there are a few writers out there who operate on pen names, people who have nicknames they rather use or are better known by. This can become a REALLY bad practice - as a social network places like Facebook need to realize that there are other avatars out there.
Nexeus Fatale: DJ For a Cause
Second Life Insider
Nov 1st 2007 3:18AM Thanks Akela for the post and great comments! I really Appreciate it!! While, yes Chocoholic your right, many DJs and live musicians have done shows for causes, free of charge, for a while (I've been one of them) - there never really has been a pushes to change that way of thought outside of several individual efforts (which should not at all be diminished in importance one bit for their efforts!)
But as Akela mentioned none (or very little of them) get the sort of attention they deserve. Also in most causes it is the organizer going to the musicians or DJ's asking if they are able to do an event because of a cause. In this case it's a bit different, its the other way around.

Sep 27th 2007 3:51PM This is a horrible idea... I mean talk about restricting someone's freedom of expression. You know what I find interesting though... while we outrage against this there is an outrage against those who do it (well not as much of an outrage but a snicker and sneer). It seems that either or no one wins.
The Most Misleading Title Ever

Sep 26th 2007 11:42AM Well... personally I think that it is a fact to carry an entire article and it says something about where tech and technology advancement is placed in the world. India has about 15% of the worlds population with that many people you would think that SL use is spread across the country (like in the United States.) If a study came out that said SL use in the United States is coming mainly from South Carolina, there would be a serious inquiry into why that is the case? Are there new tech jobs appearing there? Is technology more widely accessible? Are people more technology knowledgeable? I mean, with as huge of a population that India has, why in the country are the majority of users for SL hailing from New Delhi (one can make assumptions). A statistic like that says something very important about the social, technological and possible future marketing climate for India.
