The Daily Grind: Read and understood

Sep 16th 2008 9:46AM Nope, don't read 'em, don't scan 'em. Yes, I feel a twinge about agreeing to something I haven't read, and about saying I've read something I haven't.
But in the end, I take the same fatalistic approach that recursive and dandellion have.
Hands on: The Second Life SLim client is here

Sep 3rd 2008 8:47PM And now http://secondlife.com/SLim/ is gone. Good riddance. I thought it said (a few hours ago, when I downloaded the whole shebang at work) that voice did not yet work. FAIL. Of course, none of the instructions on the page matched what actually happened when I ran the two apps.
I was able to IM someone not on my friends list, who may have been in SLim at the time. This was before my friends list loaded. I was later able to IM with an alt (on my friends list) running the trunk viewer on the same machine. But neither SLim nor the trunk showed correct presence, and it took a couple tries for the IM to go through. I had a successful conversation with me once it went through, however.
I also went to the help menu and was sent to the Vivox Connector help pages, which were of no help, of course.
Linden Lab staff gagged? Unable to post to official blog

Aug 27th 2008 10:22AM My first thought on seeing Torley's personal blog post was "about time for changes in communication policy." But it does seem extreme to totally cut off communications in the process of improving them. My optimistic self hopes someone with some sense proposed a good, solid communications policy (with, oh, I dunno, scheduling, accountability, standards, editing) and the Linden Taoists are up in arms about it, holding it back, but shortly we'll see a much improved set of communications feeds.
But sadly, my guess is that it's just more of the same: bad planning, bad execution, and extremely bad communication, both internally and externally.
What Second Life means to me

Aug 25th 2008 7:57PM So, let's get this straight: Linden Research, Inc., is preparing a promotional video about their only product, to be shown in public in 10-12 days, and they haven't yet publicly invited this input from customers? Oh, yeah, right, that'll be some video.
Will it be thrown together at the last minute, or is the request for customer input just customer manipulation with little actual effect on the final video?
