Secret Santa who gave away millions finally reveals identity

The Cancer Blog

Jan 18th 2007 8:25PM My husband was a man who found happiness in giving to others, and like Larry Stewart, he was a victim of esophageal cancer at age 57. His symptoms were fairly subtle and tolerable, for awhile. It was gradual, and then, quite suddenly, intolerable and within months, fatal. He was a giver, generous in all the ways a person can be - not with just the material things, but the truly priceless commodities - love, laughter, time, attention, understanding, support, kindness. Life never is the same when a person so loving and beloved is taken from you. With the incidence of this very cruel cancer on the rise, more must be done to make those with the highest risk aware of the symptoms. Too often, men especially, put up with discomfort to avoid a trip to the doctor. Don't dismiss heartburn or any changes in swallowing , however minor it may seem. People who tend to be giving and loving are the most prone to ignoring their own needs, including symptoms of illness. Ironically, because they are so generous by nature, these lovely people leave us much too soon, and through their generosity we are ultimately robbed of their presence on this earth.
