DS Daily: The latest rumor

While an accelerometer is a welcome change, I actually had much better expectations from Nintendo. My hope is for a DS+ device with slightly larger screens (just slightly, same resolution), more RAM, faster processor, better buttons, louder/better sound generation... sure, I dream wildly, but that's what I wanted.

Mar 19th 2008 5:49AM First poster is right.
In some countries such as Eastern Europe, Africa, etc. people actually pay money for what electronics other people throw in their junk. Not that these people are too poor - I mean, even middle class professionals prefer to relieve their gizmo obession by ebay and second cand imports. Since I started paying for second hand, refurbished, etc. electronics I have everything I ever wanted. Getting cheap old tech as expendable gizmos such as memory, mp3s, etc... would be great. Bad, this won't happen. US wants landfills of tech...

Feb 15th 2007 9:55AM Second life may not be the right place to learn language per se, but it's a good place to train it in written form, just mingle with the foreign language community and you'll see your language put inder pressure in casual situations. Also, using uploaded sound files, one can create a learning sim where clicking on objects or textures pronounces their word in a selected language. That's expensive though (10 Lindens per file).

Feb 8th 2007 5:01AM It is difficult to believe in God in a world, where everyone has god-like powers. Religions in SL are doomed to be either extension of outworld, first-life beliefs or "proof of concept" weird roleplay, where the goal is to produce the illusion of life-like religion, not believe in it.

Feb 7th 2007 8:42AM I for one don't really want to have Second Life as an established standard that all Virtual Worlds follow strictly, as it contains many core technologies that are little backwards in order to provide compatibility with slower computers/connections, rather than evolutionary that will lead us in the DX10-dominated fall/winter of 2007.

Feb 7th 2007 8:07AM It is unlikely that all those issues will be resolved in favor of the community - Lindens need some leash to keep SL from leaving their grasp. It's still no worries because they are unlikely to use it against their user base unless in extreme cases (i.e. pedophile snuff SL-spinoff). Also, the success of SL has already at least half a dozen large developers working on better virtual worlds, hoping to gather the attention of any disgruntled programmer/user base.
If Virtual Worlds are akin to MMOs, then Second Life is Everquest, and the genre still waits for its World of Warcraft.
