SL in the media

Jun 29th 2007 2:13PM Another interesting piece of media interest in SL in Wired.com on a new community in SL see: http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/06/anglican_second.html

Are you an augmenter or an immersionist? Just askin'

Second Life Insider

Jun 12th 2007 2:57PM I run a Christian Sim and group in SL and find that behind most of the difficultly we face is the split between whether you see SL as an extension of RL (augmenter) or you view SL as a game (immersionist).

One such example is sin in SL. The gamers will argue that it is 'just a game' and that sin isn't present. Whereas those who see it as an extension of RL argue that the same heart is behind the ava and that sin is possible. The time may come where we have to specify the philosophical approach of the group at sign up: 'This group is augmentation oriented..' or something like that. Man this difference of approach is causing me headaches!!!

Yesterday's Money: 25th March

Second Life Insider

Mar 26th 2007 4:40AM I just had a bright and simple idea for SL. Given the time difference challenges it would be cool to have the facility to quickly check in world, without having to boot up the web, the time in the USA, UK, Aust etc... Also while I am in the business of thinking up ideas: how about a L$ US$ currency converter that can also be accessed in world?

Free your voice - but speech isn't entirely free

Second Life Insider

Feb 28th 2007 11:14PM Bring on the voice technology! From my perspective I find communication is limited when only using text in SL. Adding voice will increase the ability to communicate better as tone provides much more than simple words can. The challenge may be poeple understanding my aussie accent!

And finally, here's hoping the good people at Linden Labs are also working on body language recognition software. If not for the social set, certainly for business apps.

Just Askin': Will you be using voice?

Second Life Insider

Feb 28th 2007 2:53AM Voice is a must and I would be very happy to be part of the Beta.

In short, with voice comes tone and the ability to refine and improve communication. I rely on my voice for my interpersonal communication and miss it in SL.

And finally: bring on the body language recognition technology!
