Cocksure Lab nixes nipples

Massively

Jul 2nd 2008 5:10AM It is a puzzle, isn't it? I could accept that prim count was the case, but hardly that anybody would make prim nipples on that statue, it takes not much skill and knowledge to see that they would be done on texture.

But what is really amazing here is that Lindens are not behind all the censorship on the grid. It terrifies me that some of is happens on artist's side, like that air-brushing up there. Not to mention that that kind of vandalism (cause it is vandalism) leads us to the world where everything is either completely cleaned of anything even remotely sexual or extremely kinky. Idea of the world that covers both of those extremes and nothing between them is scary. http://metaverse.acidzen.org/2008/world-of-the-extremes

Jul 1st 2008 8:22AM Well, this David and his PG rating is hell of a fun.
Though, I contacted Timmi Allen, the creator of the statue to ask him about nipples, and the answer was that Lindens have nothing to do with the absence of them. (http://metaverse.acidzen.org/2008/davids-nipples) Surely, statue exhibited in his garden is also nipple-free.
Which makes it all even more strange.

Jun 3rd 2008 11:24PM Cincia, questions you raise are quite complex. I'll try to go one buy one.

Does someone have a "right" to express themselves as a "child" in a mature content area?
Yes, one can express themselves anyway they want in mature areas.

Is it right for "child avatars" to be able to view content inappropriate for minors?
Yes, as it is adult's eyes and mind behind the child avatar.

Is prohibiting "children" from inappropriate behavior discriminatory?
Prohibiting child avatars from attending the celebrationa and showing their work is very discriminatory.

Is it proper to put the rest of the population in a position of having to babysit "mature" sims/regions/builds for "children" to make sure they're behaving as children?
Who asked the rest of the population to babysit the kids? As far as I know, those kids are taking care of themselves much better than many in the "adult" population.

I believe there IS a place for "child avatars" in SL, it's just not in mature areas anymore than it's appropriate for someone to post mature content or participate in mature behavior in a PG sim.
There are many places for child avatars in SL. And, if you haven't noticed, kids are keeping to those places. They are playing their games, talk their talks, having their fun. Just the rest of us. There are BDSM, furry, sci-fi, western, biz, normals, gorrean... all kind of places. Each with its own feel, games, talks. And if you haven't noticed, we rarely mix. Sure, there are some zones that different cultures visit. Like shops, exhibitions, some parties. And one of those, for sure, is celebration of grid's birthday. Cause that grid belongs to all of us. cause we all play, talk, do business and have fun there.I don't know why you think that celebration of that birthday is not appropriate for some kind avatars. And how can you think that anybody that lives on the grid should not be welcomed on the celebration of the diversity of that very grid.

Children are, by anyone's loosest definition, RL or SL, PG (Parental Guidance!). If they weren't then there might be no PG sims and the teen grid might not exist.
PG sims exist because some people don't want to be confronted with "mature" content. For the same reason there are filters in search results. They are not invented to block some people from coming in, but to keep the "clean" space for those who want to be there. That is the only fair way to do things. It is not prohibition but protection for those who want it.

By what logic does putting an adult behind the "child avatar" change what the "child" is or where it is appropriate for it to be?
Logic that adult have a right to chose which content will enjoy?

Jun 3rd 2008 1:30PM Cincia, if it is politics, then how about freedom of expression? If it is about politics, then how about discriminating some groups of users is a step towards fascism? And how about you not placing your own (dis)likes as common?

Jun 2nd 2008 11:31AM Exactly Erbo. If one starts retreating, there is no end until their back is up against the wall. Even more, retreating like this is a confirmation of guilt.
After all, Lindens could set the event as they set the whole world: "we provide the grid/space but residents are responsible for what they create." And it was hardly a problem to divide the celebration space in PG and mature areas. Each to its own. With a polite, friendly and sane notice, with some volunteers and guides we could keep child avies off the mature areas. And everything would be fine. It would be rough maybe, but nothing that Lindens WITH the residents couldn't fight with. This way, Lindens ALONE have to face the discrimination and ugly customer treatment.

Virtual worlds without interoperability are dead worlds, Swaminathan

Massively

Jun 1st 2008 5:18PM SL will be interoperable when you will be able to TP from Linden's grid to any of the other's grid and not to lose your inventory and money.

Though I find Swaminathan is right, there will be Second Life in two years. But it will not be operated and maintained by linden Lab exclusively.
