Thoughts on Ageplay

Second Life Insider

Mar 8th 2007 7:05AM I should start by mentioning that I am do not generally engage in ageplay myself (unless you count talking to avatars who are 'ageplaying') but support those who want to.

Today I was in a welcome area when I logged in and there was a female avatar ageplaying. I started a general discussion about the issue (started as a joke) which became heated after about half an hour. At some point one or two of the people invloved in the discussion (who are clearly hackers) decided to lag me and (from what they were saying) the girl avi out of SL. Even though she was nothing but polite and she engaged in no sexual activity or talk whatsoever they went after her purely because her avi was a young girl.

Paedophilia and child porn are illegal and morally wrong because they cause harm to children, not because most people find them creepy. Ageplay does not cause any harm to children, directly or indirectly. Ageplaying does not encourage paedophilia any more than first person shooter games encourage mass slaughter. What consenting adults do between themselves is no one else's business, no matter how creepy others might find it. And certainly going after a child avi because they *might* at some point engage in sexual roleplay is just plain stupid and evil.
