Cinemassively: Visit Mexico in Second Life

Massively

Apr 11th 2008 3:54PM Sad though, that due to lag, in order to make an outstanding 'machinima' it involves only 10 seconds of actual motion and three full minutes of still shots presented in a slide show fashion with expensive plug-in transitions.

Cinemassively: Civil Liberties in Teen Second Life

Massively

Jan 30th 2008 3:28PM Nice. I like how the teenage appropriate t-shirt reads: Problem solved. Let's have a beer.

Ironic, no?

Second Life Insider still ranks, even though it's technically dead

Massively

Dec 9th 2007 4:57PM No offense, bu Massively has a long way to go before it replaces SLI, for me. And in fact, I'm slowly phasing it out of my regular reading, only checking it weekly instead of daily any more.

I appreciated the layout of the former SLI site - from the colour scheme used, to the page layout, to the lack of clutter and always on topic posts - it was easy to read.

I feel like Massively involves more effort to find the information that interests me. Yes, I have it bookmarked to show only the SL topics, but that doesn't mean the posts are not surrounded by a barrage of ads or other non-SL related topic links. Just look to the left or right margins right now and tell me how much of it pertains to SL? Looks like about 1% of the content, to me.

Heck, even the posts with bulleted items now confuse me - with the bullet point indicator highlighting the last line of each item? Not helping! I used to love that Tateru broke down each topic into bullet points, but now they just feel like a big run-on sentence and a jumble of facts.

Still have much love for the SLI writers, just not feeling it Massively.

Linden Lab takes the communication out of the virtual world

Second Life Insider

Aug 2nd 2007 1:39PM The new communication window might not be the biggest problem in SL at the moment, but it sure is going to be a constant daily, in-your-face issue that doesn't go away, much like the inventory not keeping folders collapsed issue that was a huge pain since it was so prevalent with the simple act of using the client.

I was hoping the communication window was just a test feature for the First Look Voice Viewer, but it's going to be integrated with Voice into the main client? Ugh. It is no understatement to say that it really makes it hard to see what's going on in SL with that huge window taking up no less than 1/3 of the screen, and usually blocking more than that. Even 'tearing off' the individual IM windows doesn't help the experience any. Poorly designed UI.

New optional viewer update 1.15.1

Second Life Insider

May 15th 2007 10:08AM I just love how the updates are optional - as in, when you try to log in, you can either "upgrade" or "quit".

Second Life Insider

May 10th 2007 5:10PM Yikes, sorry about that double post...

Anyway, very odd - I thought maybe my browser was the issue, but I've tried at home, work and different browsers.

I go to that link, and enter 1.00 for Approximate Cost in US$ and the Quantity of Linden Dollars shows as 186 in the box above, every single time now without fail. And of course, even with a $.30 fee for purchasing, it wouldn't be anywhere close to L$270 to US$1 rate for me.

Oh well, thanks for checking on that for me, Eloise! I appreciate it.

Where Do You Want To Go Today? SL, Apparently

May 10th 2007 2:21PM Was wondering when MS would make a presence in SL... let's just hope they don't force us to accept those cookies to visit their Island! :-(

Yesterday's Money: 9th May

Second Life Insider

May 10th 2007 2:13PM Still love this feature - still confused as to how to apply the statistics, hehe. I think I am missing something.

I understand where you get the exchange rate information, and yes, it does match what LL reports on their own Second Life website. In fact, all reports since I've noticed back in late February would seem to show a daily average much like today's, that being an exchange rate of L$270+ to US$1. I think I recall purchasing my first Lindens for such a price, even.

However, for the past month at least, I would not know where to go get such an exchange rate if I wanted to buy more Lindens. The official site (https://secure-web11.secondlife.com/currency/buy.php) or in-world (World -> Buy L$) both allow you to purchase for the exchange rate of only L$186 to US$1, which is fairly significant in my opinion.

I check the rates numerous times each day, at various times and never see anything other than 186-1 so I would find it surprising that at the end of the day it averaged out to 270-1.

Does the exchange rate average listed everywhere only indicate that is what the Linden is worth compared to the US dollar, but is not to represent the price it is sold for? Seems like an 'exchange rate' would mean you could exchange one currency for the other at the rate listed. I haven't been able to do that for many weeks now - unless I should be going through some other resource than LL.

Thanks for any clarification you might be able to provide, Eloise! Very much appreciated.
