Oct 2nd 2008 12:30PM Moo, I loved this selection--thanks. But you have me curious with your review...you mentioned wishing he had gone for the jugular (apologize for spelling)--what would that have looked like? This sounds like a great further development, and I'd love to know more!
SK Gaming splits into separate PvE and PvP guilds

Oct 2nd 2008 10:54AM TotalBiscuit, I think your rebuttal of some of the "why is this news?" was spot on. Most of the time when an article is posted about the top end raiding guilds a spew of "this isn't news--we don't care about this" (then why did you read it and post?) issues forth. This time it was dealt with rather quickly and you're getting "you over reacted, I didn't mean anything by my comment". Yeah, right.
Thanks for posting this info about SK Gaming, I do find it interesting. Thanks also for the rebuttal to squash the hate early on.
If you don't know who SK Gaming is and you can't be bothered to Google and find out why this is of interest, don't flame the person posting about this.

Sep 26th 2008 11:26AM "The fact is, as a fresh 70, its far easier to gear up for Kara and beyond by doing BGs and Arena than it is by doing 5-mans, heroics, and even Kara, where you have to deal with random drops and rolls and long non-interrupted playtime (not to mention, actually playing and succeeding and not just standing around and losing)."
I see, because Kara is serious business right? Who cares? Bliz already nerfed access into Kara as well as heroics, and the content in both. Why are you so worried about the gear people enter Kara with?
"Some of the PVP gear is appropriately difficult to get, like the weapon and the s4 set pieces. But the belt, the gloves and some of the other pieces are way too easy to get. Why would anyone serious about gearing up run any PVE instance before getting those pieces? "
Because the stats on the pvp belt, gloves and generic 'some of the other pieces' are woefully inadequate for proper gearing for raiding. If you had common sense and pve progressional experience I think you would realize this. I suspect you lack in both.
"The ease of getting some of the PVP gear is making a large portion of the rest of the game pointless (eveything below Kara, or even SSC)."
What are you talking about? If you are finding that pre-xpac it does seem there are fewer people running heroics and Kara and this is somehow impeding your "progress", welcome to pre-xpansion wow. Pvp has nothing to do with that--most people recognize that the xpac is coming and honor grinding, etc is dropping off. Lighten up.
I also bristle at you lumping both Kara and SSC into the same category--they are not the same thing, nor is the gear even the same. Likewise, if you are just now deciding to raid and finding it frustrating that there aren't more SSC guilds, don't blame pvp for that.
" It should be just as easy (or difficult) to gear up by only doing PVE as it is gearing up by only doing BGs and arenas."
They are separate aspects of a single game, and one doesn't have to diminish the other. But as long as you are going to complain that pvp is ruining pve, I would also suggest that pve gear be rendered unusuable in BGs and Arenas (goodbye glaives!), and likewise why don't we require that everyone in pvp has to use a pvp mount. Leave your Amani war bear in the bank please.

Sep 26th 2008 11:04AM "Keep in mind, you can do that as a fresh 70 with greens on. All you have to do is spend like a day in BGs just dinking around and you can jump from a green level 66 belt to a t6 equivalent belt. It makes no sense."
No, in most battlegroups, you can't do this. I have multiple 70s and have gone through the process of BGing in order to acquire reasonable pvp gear several times. Mostly recently I did this on fresh 70 and I can assure you it took me several days in several different BGs to acquire both the honor and the tokens needed to buy a single piece of Merc gear.
In the battlegroups I play in, people get reported for being afk, so this notion that I could "dink around" and get gear is completely false. As a person playing primarily healing classes I can likewise assure you that Merc gear would gimp my stats profoundly in raid content
Again, not sure why pvp gear diminishes you--I'm a raider, and likely farther ahead in the content than you are and honestly I don't understand why you have your panties in a knot about this.

Sep 26th 2008 10:50AM OK, so which is it Celton--does pvp give you T5 or T6. Honestly I think you are just spouting some sort of misinformation you've heard elsewhere. And you sound suspiciously like one of those raiders who feels that other people having purples somehow diminishes you.
Let's be clear about this--Rage Winterloot & Shade of Lootkama are pve welfare. Let's also be clear that dying repeatedly in T6 content DOES give you rewards in the form of rep. If you are a JC it gives you easy access to epic gem patterns at a deeply discounted price, and in BT it gives you access to SR gear patterns and class specific trinkets.
Additionally, if raiders are going to continue to cry about others having purples (and I am a raider who does not really give a rat's @$$ about folks in pvp gear and how they got their gear), then I think it would be important to require that all pve gear worn in pvp environments should cease to function. No more rogues with glaives, no more me with my SSC resilience ring cruising around BGs getting unfair advantage.
And while we are at it--let's remove the ability to trade in Tier tokens for pvp gear. Because fair is fair, right?

Sep 26th 2008 10:40AM Celton I think you are completely misguided. As a SWP raider I can assure you that for nearly all classes and specs, Merc gear is woefully inadequate for raiding MH, BT, and SWP in. The current system for accruing the gear is actually fine, and in most battle groups requires a significant time invesment--active participation ensures more rapid acquisition of the gear.
The lack of important stats needed for raid success prohibits nearly all classes and specs from using pvp gear for raiding. I think it's a delightful myth that this is not the case. As someone with a bank overflowing with purples for both my main and off specs, honestly I don't care about your BG attained merc gear. Other people having purples doesn't diminish me. Sadly, I wish my fellow raiders realized this as well.
I personally dislike Arena and enjoy BGs as a side activity. No one should be forced to participate in Arena in order to secure the bottom end pvp gear.

Sep 25th 2008 2:27PM No, earthbind won't make you immune to fear and charm. Until grounding totem is actually eaten, this is the stated ability:

Perhaps I'm misguided here--but aside from someone melee-ing a totem down I could likewise see a shadow priest casting VE and then SWP on the grounding totem. XD
Will not redirect aoe effects. That would include the various fear and horrify abilities for starters.

Sep 25th 2008 2:16PM I was pretty stunned by the "stop the QQ you got a buff at least" commentary from yesterday's post--I can only guess those folks don't actually play a shaman in any pvp setting. For those of us who do, even as minimally as myself, the problem with tying so many needed abilities to one school of totem is baffling.
I'd like to point out that other classes have the option to do a variety of actions at once in an attempt to counter another class in a pvp setting. For instance, my priest can proc trinkets, pain supression, dispel, elune's grace, fear ward with only a gcd limiting me. That's a lot of mitigation in a very short time period.
For shaman the choice becomes which totem to use after proccing a trinket because you will be cced in such a distasteful manner that you may not get a chance to choose a second totem. The scenario I know we are all envisioning is using anything but tremor--what happens? Try to break a snare with earthbind? Feared or sheeped! Trinket out of that and drop that tremor--snared again. Try to drop earthbind again, feared or sheeped.
Drop grounding you say? Sure--it will work once, and is on a CD...
It's just absurd. And yes, know some of the priest abilities I mentioned are going away in WotLK, however the fact remains that my priest has a number of near simultaneous tools to utilize as counters. My shaman doesn't.
With the removal of the ability for ghost wolf to break some CC, under the arguement that giving shaman such an iconic druid ability simply wasn't right. If we're against giving iconic abilities from one class to another, why exactly are feral druids being given rogue shadow step? Why are all druids being given an out of combat rez? Aren't these iconic abilities that belong to other classes?
I'm not suggesting the nerfage of druids mind you--but as someone with multiple 70s of several different classes, including priest, shaman, druid, and even rogue--the arguement just don't hold any validity imho.

Sep 24th 2008 11:17PM OMG do you fail to see the connection that if you have an earth totem that protects your other totems down you can't drop tremor and since you have no effective way to break CC/snares save your PvP trinket that you would once again be hosed in PvP?
Honestly, I don't like writing things like that but your post is ridiculous. People have rather calmly stated their (justified) concern about the slight buff -- the concerns that tremor is not being recognized as the primary and only method for breaking fear, charm, etc. and therefore cannot be compromised for a class with no other means to escape what could be constant CC--I'm sorry, you fail.
